Alltwen 6 Cefn Cribbwr 26: Madge injury disrupts Alltwen

Last season's home performace against Cefn Cribbwr was the pivotal match in helping Alltwen's securing the Division championship ahead of their Bridgend Borough based rivals. This season's corresponding home fixture saw a reversal in fortunes, as a strong second half perfomance from the visitors enabled them to drive home with the spoils.

For much of the first half Alltwen had given good indication of competitveness, with fly half Jason Richards edging the home side ahead with a brace of penalties and using the wind to good effect with some impressive kicks out of hand. The critical moment came within sight of half time, however. A seemingly innocuous cover tackle by skipper and No 8 Dan Madge resulted in a dislocated shoulder and visit to some old friends in Emegency Ward 10.

Without doubt the injury impacted on his team as Cefn Cribbwr took control and despite still trailing at half time, were able to press home the advantage and ultimately secure a four try bonus point win.

Madge's absence will now throw down a challenge to the Alltwen team of finding leadership and renewed resolve from within a team that on Saturday appered to take defeat too quietly. That resolve will now be severely tested at table topping Tonmawr on Saturday. Time for leaders to stand up.
