After suffering a shock defeat at Gwyn St earlier in the season, Vardre gained sweet revenge with a comprehensive win in the return encounter in Clydach, Sat 6th Jan.
In dry, cool conditions Alltwen started strongly before the home side gained territorial advantage and first score. With the home side backs combining well they were able to quickly add a second, with the omens not appearing good for Alltwen.
However the visitors were able to show sufficient character for Craig Howells to crash over for a try converted by Jason Richards.
Again the Clydach backs began to threaten from all areas of the field and were able to add two further first half tries before Alltwen responded with a try from prop Tom Hopkins just before the break.
Any hope of Alltwen countering in the second half however were unfounded, as a well drilled young Vardre side ran riot with Alltwens’ only response being a second try from Hopkins with Richards adding the conversion.
Vardre looked a side capable of making a strong run in the second half of the season. Alltwen will now have to go back to the drawing board in the hope of consolidating a mid-table position, beginning with Saturday’s home encounter against Rhigos KO 14:30
