Alltwen 39 Crynant 7: Alltwen dish up six in Crynant Hors D’oev D’euev, erm starters

Alltwen completed their home campaign in style with a resounding six-try defeat of Crynant in this rescheduled midweek match, three days ahead of the return fixture.

The game kicked off with the home side benefitting from a stiff breeze in dry conditions.  It was the visitors who began the stronger however, with some skilled footballers and a strong scrummage somehow belying their low league position.

Alltwen then scored twice against the run of play to secure a ten-nil lead. Firstly full back Sam Parry kicked three points with a welcome penalty and then lock Steve Morgan steamed over with a barnstorming run, burying the ball over the opposition line in full view of the referee, if not the opposition.

Crynant responded with a converted try of their own, only for Alltwen to delight their opponents even more. In a carbon copy of events against Baglan only a few days before, Paul Jammo James skimmed in at the corner, flicking the corner flag in the process.  Fortunately for Alltwen on this occasion, linesman Brian Thomas had been late on his post round, again, to be replaced by young Pwdin junior. Sharp, on the ball and behind the posts in a flash, this boy has a future.

At 15-7 and turning around at half time against the wind the odds still appeared to favour Crynant. However whatever coach Amir Hussein put in the half time oranges appear to have worked, because his side became transformed in the second half.

Suddenly the scrum became dominant and Ceiron Daniels was the beneficiary of a push-over try. Then the backs spearheaded by fly half Dicky Williams sprung to life and the floodgates opened. Firstly Jason Roberts scored a try that would have had the Ospreys rethinking about signing George North (for a few seconds). Then Chris Balfe celebrated his return with a touchdown, before wing Rhodri Lewis finished off another excellent move to close the show. Batty capped an impressive personal evening by adding 3 conversions to his opening penalty.

Alltwen will now seek to secure a rapid double in Saturday’s visit to Crynant KO 14:30. All support welcome and deserved.
