Bryncethin 12 Alltwen 29: Alltwen find their form in away win at Bryncethin

A week on from the frustrations of failing to topple table toppers Tonmawr, Alltwen at last rediscovered their scoring touch, in recording a five try win away to Bridgend side Bryncethin.

Given ample possession by a pack that on current form can surely match any in the division ,Alltwen finally showed they could construct some well worked tries.

A man of the match performance from wing Liam Roberts typified the side's change in form and application. Showing himself eager for work throughout, Roberts neatly finish off some fine handling for an early try. Inspired by this Alltwen quickly drove home the initiative with other first half tries from Will Davies (2) and full back Sam Batty helping to secure an early bonus point.

Bryncethin gamely tried to rally second half and whilst they did manage a score out wide and threatened another, an excellent counter attack from deep by the visitors saw centre Jason Richards eventually stroll over for his side’s fifth and put the result beyond doubt.

In the Alltwen pack Dicky Owen and Ross Jones were prominent, Will Davies showed that he can be a useful finisher and Alex Carne showed that he has more to offer at flanker than wing, where Rhodri Lewis shone. Mention in despatches too should go to the Zak and Dicky show at half back as new partners in crime, with the latter taking every opportunity to spark his outside backs into attack.

Had Alltwen shown this same attacking aptitude a few weeks back at Glyncorrwg, the team would have come away with victory instead of frustrating defeat. The side have an opportunity now to quickly put this right, as the Afan Valley side are next weeks visitors to Gwyn St. This is the first of five consecutive home games which with a repeat of this weekend should see the team propel itself up the table. KO 2:30. All welcome, including the side that finally turned up yesterday.
