Alltwen finally delivered the team performance they have been threatening for weeks in demolishing Pontrhydyfen with a 7 try bonus point win at Gwyn St.. Despite missing a few players attending a Benidorm geriatrics conference, the side also showed its strength in depth by delivering a third win on the trot.

In dry overhead conditions but with the ground wet underfoot after heavy overnight rain, Pontrhydyfen began strongly in seeking a season’s double over their opponents. However it was Alltwen who countered and put first points on the board, centre Paul Morgan finishing powerfully to give his side exactly the boost needed.

A further try followed when wing Rhodri Lewis hassled his opponent into an error, slipping the ball for returning centre Jordan Hopkin to race home. The home side gradually became transformed, playing with cohesion and delivering a third try before the break with prop Tom Hopkins featuring strongly at both scrum and with ball.

Turning around 17-5 ahead Alltwen’s transformation became complete as the forward domination of recent weeks was at last complemented by a backs performance to match, with the 10,12,13 midfield combination proving particularly effective.

Centre Morgan added a second in a man of the match performance, his brace being matched by a second half pair from livewire Jordan James. Playing with genuine freedom the Alltwen backs then added two further scores from replacement scrum half Zak Beynon and a beautifully worked try for wing Lewis to finish with a plumb.

Two of the tries were converted by full back Sam Batty who has assumed kicking duties with Jason Richards likely to take a short break to get more practise. Meantime the side have a great chance to add to their run of victories with the visit of Bryncethin next Saturday 14^th April  KO 14:30.
