Despite winning all away league contests thus far, Alltwen gained their first home win of the season with a five-try defeat over visiting Crynant.
Alltwen got off to a perfect start with a converted try straight from Crynant’s kick off. A chip from fly half Liam Byrne had the opposition defence dithering, allowing centre Jordan Hopkin to gather unopposed and race under the posts.
As much as Alltwen then tried, with wing Liam Roberts featuring regularly, small errors led to some promising handling movements breaking down. Captain Ceiron Daniel then decided that points mean prizes, allowing Byrne to take and convert a couple of well struck penalties. It was Byrne himself who then scored Alltwen’s second try, finishing a blind-side move inspired by the busy Paul Jammo James, to give his side a comfortable 18-0 half-time lead.
Hopkin again opened Alltwen’s try count in the second half, racing over after some excellent combined handling, impeccably converted by Byrne. Soon after, a clean line-break by Byrne found second half substitute Nicky Chart on his inside, who finished with a burst of pace not seen since the police chased him out of Thailand. A pumped up Chart then got a second before Crynant who never at any point gave up the fight, were rewarded with a hard-earned late try.
This was much more like the team effort that will serve Alltwen well through the season. The side’s unblemished away record will now be seriously tested in the next league fixture away at Cefn Cribbwr, Saturday 10th November 14:30. All travelling support welcome.
