Baglan 31: Alltwen16. Losing start for Alltwen at Baglan..

Alltwen’s unhelpful delayed start to the new season began in less than ideal fashion with a loss away at a windswept Baglan.

Although missing a few key players, Alltwen began in positive fashion with an excellent individual try from number 8 Daniel Owen. Playing with the advantage of a strong breeze, the visitors were then unable to effectively use the territorial advantage this offered. Despite Owen continuing to feature strongly only new fly half Dan Batty could add to the points, with Alltwen tallying two penalty kicks.

The second half was an altogether different proposition, as Baglan used the wind to excellent positional effect and their speedy backs were instrumental in helping them secure a winning bonus point. The game’s flow wasn’t necessarily helped by refereeing interpretations, but these were the same for both sides and Alltwen could not use this as any form of excuse. When the side instead began to focus on its own performance rather than the official’s, the reliable Jordan Hopkins showed what might be possible ahead with excellent support for a well taken try.

Alltwen now take a trip to Pyle for a cup contest this Saturday before the league season resumes at hone to Vardre, Saturday 23rd September KO 14:30. All welcome.
