After a brave Saturday performance, which saw a depleted Alltwen almost pull off a bonus try defeat at Glyncorrwg, the team returned to winning ways over visitors Rhigos in this rearranged midweek feature.

Both sides showed commendable commitment in a first half that saw the visitors take and hold a three point lead until Alltwen flanker Alex Carne showed outstanding determination to burst through and clear of the visitor defence and cross midway out for Sam Batty to add the extras.

The score was to remain at 7-3 until just before the interval, when a series of home attacks with lock Andrew Thomas to the fore resulted in an Alltwen penalty. From just beneath the post, fly half Batty belted the ball deep into the scrubs, which he can bloody well fetch himself next time, the git.

For whatever reason Alltwen then proceeded to sleepwalk into the second half and allowed the visitors to take a surprising 13-10 lead courtesy of a converted try and penalty. At that point real leadership was needed and once again the inspiration came chiefly from Andrew Thomas and some exceptional driving mauls from the pack, before Carne let rip with another superbly taken individual try.

For Alltwen there was no turning back and with Batty controlling territory and distribution expertly, aided by a good service from Richards and some lively support work from Lewis and Reilly, tries from Jordan James and Jordan Hopkins were enough to seal the deal for the home team. Batty added extras to total one conversion and 3 penalties before the visitors earned some deserved scoreboard respectability with a converted try at the death.

Coach Amer Hussein will now be looking for an equally spirited performance from his team as Alltwen next host promotion chasing Bryncethin this Saturday 27^th April 14:30. All support welcome.
