Having already secured promotion, Alltwen moved one step closer to becoming division champions with a convincing victory over a plucky Pontryhydyfen at Gwyn St.
In perfect conditions the home side, encountering plucky resistance, registered two first half tries. The first through ever-lively Rhodri Lewis coming off his wing into midfield and doing well to exploit opposition midfield confusion. The second was a fine finish from man of the match Kyle Roberts, again excelling in the fly-half role.
It was Roberts who helped get set the second half scoreboard ticking with a clever grubber kick which centre Jordan Hopkins was able to follow up with some adept footwork of his own, to beat the opposition to the touchdown and claim a well deserved score.
Pontrhydyfen’s stubborn resistance was then hit with the loss of their hooker following some indiscipline. With the door further ajar, Alltwen were able to follow up with further tries for Hopkins and Lewis, either side of a well deserved try from lock Steve Morgan. Having banished his banjo for the afternoon, all six tries were converted by Jason Roberts.
To the visitor’s credit at no stage did they give up the fight and their resistance was deservedly rewarded with a late try of their own.
Alltwen now have three games remaining to secure the title, the first of which is the re-arranged fixture with third place Ogmore Vale at home this Wednesday 26th April 18:30, followed by another home tie against Brackla on Saturday 29th 14:30. All support welcome.
