Alltwen seniors returned to winning ways, putting the previous week’s setback at Cefn Cribbwr behind them with a resounding six try performance, at home to Cwmtwrch.
After early indications that the Cwmtwrch scrum might prove a handful, the home pack began to disrupt the visitor set piece effectively, with energetic home prop Ross Jones quickly forcing his way over into the corner for his side’s opening try.
The rest of the Alltwen pack then appeared convinced they too could add to the scoresheet, with a number of clear overlap opportunities being ignored. Ultimately good sense prevailed, with Paul James eventaully being worked wide in space, his little legs motoring to the corner and proving what a useful finisher he can be.
Just before half-time the home team added yet another corner flag try, this time by back-row row forward Chris Balfe, aided by a superb finishing pass from Kyle Roberts.
Turning around with the wind slightly in their favour, Alltwen began to assert greater territory dominance, with a try from Ceiron Daniel helping secure his side’s bonus point.
A further period of white line fever ensued, much to the red-headed frustration of full back Rhodri Lewis, eager to cap a lively man-of-the match display with his own five point contribution. It was Craig Howells who eventually added to Alltwen’s try count, before Jason Richards completed the set with his team’s sixth.
Five of the six tries were converted by centre Andrew Roberts, whose educated boot had also kept his side well placed at key moments throughout, each kick being accompanied by the usual cultivated refrain ’’ ’ave that.”
Alltwen’s next match will be a tester to savour against table topping Tonna, away on 12th November 2:30 pm.
